Common reasons to choose Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is a popular and effective method to achieve brighter and more even teeth.
Here are some of the most common reasons why people choose to whiten their teeth:
1. Reduce surface stains from coffee, tea or smoking
Everyday habits such as drinking coffee, tea, wine, or smoking can cause discoloration. Teeth whitening helps reduce these stains and restores a whiter appearance.
2. Regain natural tooth color affected by age
Teeth naturally darken over time due to aging enamel or changes in the underlying dentin. Whitening can help restore a brighter, more youthful shade.
3. Achieve a natural and beautiful shade
Teeth whitening doesn’t have to be extreme. Many people choose it to achieve a subtle yet noticeable improvement, enhancing their smile’s natural beauty.
Note: Results vary depending on individual circumstances.

We help you achieve a whiter smile
Teeth whitening is a common but delicate procedure. Choosing a reputable provider is crucial to ensure the safety and effectiveness of your results. With just one simple treatment, you can reduce discoloration within a few hours.
The results depend on factors like your original tooth shade, the type and duration of discoloration, and your post-whitening care habits. Lifestyle choices such as diet, nicotine use, and oral hygiene also affect the longevity of the whitening.
Teeth whitening does not affect crowns, veneers, or fillings, only the natural tooth surface responds to whitening products.
The minimum age for treatment is 18 years.

Questions and Answers about Teeth Whitening in Stockholm
Information Before Teeth Whitening Treatment
Contraindications and Precautions
Before undergoing a professional teeth whitening treatment, it’s important to be aware of certain contraindications and precautions:
- Allergies: Individuals with known allergies to components in the whitening agent, such as plastics or hydrogen peroxide, should avoid treatment.
- Exposed Root Surfaces and Inflamed Gums: Whitening is not recommended if you have exposed roots, gum inflammation, or thin enamel, as these conditions can increase tooth sensitivity.
- Toothbrush Abrasion: Teeth with visible toothbrush-related damage should not be treated due to heightened sensitivity.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: As there is insufficient research on teeth whitening during pregnancy and breastfeeding, it is advised to postpone treatment during these periods.
- Epilepsy: The light used during the whitening procedure can trigger seizures; therefore, individuals with epilepsy should not undergo treatment.
- Tartar: Teeth with visible tartar are not suitable for whitening, as tartar cannot be lightened. A cleaning is required beforehand.
Dental Check-up Requirement
For your safety, you must have had a dental examination by a licensed dentist within the last six months prior to your whitening treatment.
Teeth Whitening – Aftercare Instructions
Immediately after your teeth whitening treatment, it is important to follow these guidelines to maintain and protect your results:
- First Two Hours: Refrain from eating or drinking anything other than water for at least two hours after the treatment.
- Avoid Colored Dental Products: Do not use mouthwash, chlorhexidine, or any other colored dental products, as they may cause staining on your newly whitened teeth.
- Dietary Restrictions: For the next 2–3 days, avoid colorful drinks and foods (such as coffee, tea, red wine, berries, and curry), acidic and sugary foods, oily foods, and tobacco products, as these can compromise the whitening results.
Following these recommendations will help ensure long-lasting, bright results after your treatment.

How does the teeth whitening treatment work?
Your practitioner will begin by applying a lip balm to keep your lips moisturized throughout the treatment. A protective gel will then be carefully applied to your gums to shield them from the whitening agent. After that, a hydrogen peroxide based whitening gel is applied directly to the teeth. To activate the whitening process, the gel is exposed to blue LED light, enhancing its effect and gradually brightening your teeth.
How are the teeth whitened?
The light itself does not whiten the teeth but serves to accelerate the whitening process by activating the whitening gel. The actual whitening occurs through a redox reaction when hydrogen peroxide in the gel reacts. This reaction breaks down long, pigmented molecules into smaller, colorless ones, which then further decompose into carbon dioxide and water. Additionally, hydrogen peroxide releases free radicals that bind to organic molecules and break them down, leading to visibly whiter teeth.
What results can I expect?
The results of teeth whitening are individual and depend on the type and degree of discoloration, as well as your unique conditions and starting point. Generally, the stronger and thicker the enamel, the harder it can be to achieve significant whitening.
Typically, you can expect an improvement of 2–7 shades, based on the Vitapan Classic shade guide.
It’s important to note that discoloration from metals, such as amalgam fillings, or teeth that have been damaged are very difficult to whiten and may remain darker or more yellow compared to natural teeth.
For optimal and longer-lasting results, we recommend a touch-up after about 3–4 months to maintain and gradually build a brighter smile.
Can crowns, composites, or fillings be whitened?
Crowns, composites, and fillings themselves cannot be whitened. However, if the surrounding natural teeth are darker than the restoration, whitening can help lighten the natural teeth and reduce the color difference, making the overall appearance more balanced.
Which types of discoloration can be whitened?
Teeth discolored with warm tones such as brown and yellow are generally easier to whiten, as these stains usually sit on the surface of the tooth. Such discolorations are often caused by factors like coffee consumption or natural aging.
Cold tones, such as gray and blue discoloration, are typically harder to whiten because they tend to penetrate deeper into the tooth structure. These types of stains are often linked to dental restorations or certain medications, such as antibiotics and tetracyclines.
The durability of teeth whitening
The longevity of teeth whitening results is influenced by external factors, such as continued use of snuff or consumption of coffee after the treatment. To maintain your results, it is recommended to limit exposure to staining foods and beverages. Naturally, good oral hygiene also plays an important role. Generally, teeth whitening results can last up to about two years.
Does smoking and alcohol affect the durability of teeth whitening?
Yes, frequent use of alcohol and/or heavy smoking can reduce the durability of your teeth whitening results.
