Fillers Stockholm

Natural and Customized Treatments

Do you want to emphasize facial features, restore volume or soften fine lines? At MyClinic in Stockholm, we offer popular filler treatments tailored to your unique needs for a natural result.

What are fillers?

Fillers are non-surgical injectable treatments designed to restore volume, enhance facial contours, and smooth fine lines. The most common type of filler contains hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in the skin, joints, and eyes, where it helps to bind moisture and maintain skin elasticity.

At MyClinic, we use advanced techniques and premium-quality fillers, carefully tailored to each individual’s unique needs and facial anatomy.

History of fillers

Fillers are injectable substances used to restore volume, improve facial contours and reduce wrinkles – a treatment that has become increasingly popular in Stockholm and globally. But the technique has deep historical roots. As early as 1899, surgeon Robert Gersuny performed the first documented filler treatment when he injected liquid paraffin into tissue. It was used, among other things, for nose correction, but the method was soon abandoned due to complications such as inflammation and nodule formation.

In the 20th century, other materials such as silicone oil were tested, but these too proved problematic with the risk of migration into the tissues. A major step forward came in 1981 when the FDA approved the first collagen-based filler, Zyderm, which used purified collagen from calf. The results were more natural but short-lived, and allergy testing was required before treatment.

The real breakthrough came in the 1990s with the introduction of stabilized hyaluronic acid. Swedish Restylane was launched in 1996 and quickly became a global standard. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that binds water and improves skin elasticity – perfect for aesthetic treatments. With benefits such as longer durability, reversibility and low allergy risk, these fillers revolutionized the industry.

In the 2000s, more alternatives have been developed, including calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). These offer everything from collagen stimulation to longer-lasting or permanent results. In Sweden, the use of fillers is currently strictly regulated – since 2021, licensed professionals are required to perform aesthetic injections, providing increased safety and quality for patients.

How do fillers work? – A deeper explanation

Modern fillers work by adding volume where the body has lost the natural support of fat, collagen or hyaluronic acid. When injected under the skin, hyaluronic acid acts as a moisture magnet – each molecule can bind up to 1000 times its weight in water. It creates instant volume and improved moisture balance, giving skin a fresher, more youthful appearance.

The filler settles into the deeper layers of the skin or subcutaneous fat, where it acts as a ‘cushion effect’ that lifts the skin. Some fillers, particularly those based on CaHA or PLLA, also stimulate the fibroblasts in the skin to produce new collagen – improving skin firmness and texture over time. This effect can last even after the filler has broken down.

It is also important to understand the difference between static wrinkles, which are visible even at rest, and dynamic wrinkles, which occur with facial expressions. Fillers are most effective for static lines – such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines – while dynamic wrinkles are best treated with muscle relaxants. In some cases, both types of treatment can be combined for optimal effect.

Overall, fillers work both mechanically – through volume – and biologically – by stimulating the body’s own skin rejuvenation processes. The result is not only a visible improvement immediately after treatment, but also long-term skin improvement with increased elasticity, fullness and radiance.

The different types of fillers

There are several different types of fillers available today, which differ in composition, durability and application. Here is an overview of the most commonly used ones:

1. Hyaluronic acid (HA) – the most widely used filler

  • Application: Lips, cheeks, jawline, chin, under eyes, nasolabial folds
  • Duration: 3-18 months depending on area and product
  • Examples: Restylane®, Juvéderm®, Teosyal®, Belotero®

Hyaluronic acid fillers are biocompatible and deliver natural-looking results. They are reversible with enzyme (hyaluronidase) if needed. Suitable for most areas.

2. Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) – structure and collagen stimulation

  • Use: Jawline, chin, cheekbones, deep creases
  • Duration: 12-24 months
  • Example: Radiesse®

CaHA is slightly more potent than hyaluronic acid and provides more texture. It is injected deeply and not used in lips or under eyes. It also stimulates collagen.

3. Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) – collagen stimulation over time

  • Use: Cheeks, temples, jawline, skin rejuvenation
  • Duration: Up to 2 years (gradual effect)
  • Example: Sculptra®

PLLA does not give immediate volume but builds up the face over time via the body’s collagen production. Several treatments are required.

4. Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) – permanent fillers

  • Use: Deep creases, acne scars (not common in Sweden)
  • Durability: Permanent
  • Example: Bellafill®

PMMA is rarely used in Sweden due to complication risks. Used mainly in the USA. Requires careful assessment and expertise.

Benefits of filler treatments

Fillers offer a range of aesthetic benefits for those who wish to improve their appearance without surgery. Some of the main benefits include:

  • Customizability: Treatments can be tailored to meet individual needs, allowing for subtle or more prominent changes depending on preference.
  • Immediate results: The effect of a filler treatment is visible immediately after the procedure, making it a quick way to achieve the desired changes.
  • Minimal recovery time: Most people can return to their daily activities shortly after treatment, with only mild swelling or redness that quickly subsides.

Are fillers suitable for all skin types?

Yes, fillers can be customized for different skin types. At MyClinic, we tailor each treatment to your skin’s needs and aesthetic goals. Our certified practitioners will perform an individual assessment during your consultation and guide you to a treatment that suits your skin type and stage of life – whether you’re looking for subtle rejuvenation or more defined contouring.

How do fillers affect skin moisture and elasticity over time?

Fillers containing hyaluronic acid not only help restore volume, they also play an important role in improving the skin’s moisture balance and elasticity over time. Hyaluronic acid has a unique ability to bind large amounts of water, making skin feel more hydrated, plump and supple even in areas where it has become thinner or drier over time.

In addition to the immediate volume effect, fillers also stimulate the skin’s own production of collagen – a key protein for skin firmness and structure. This can result in a gradual improvement in skin quality, especially in areas affected by natural ageing. Many of our patients find that their skin becomes softer, more elastic and smoother after regular treatments – making fillers both an aesthetic and skincare investment.

Duration and maintenance of fillers

The results of a filler treatment are not permanent, giving you the flexibility to adapt your appearance over time. Depending on the treatment area and individual factors, the effect usually lasts between 3 and 12 months and in some cases even longer. To maintain the desired results, regular maintenance treatments are recommended. During your consultation, we can create a personalized treatment plan to suit your needs and preferences.

When are fillers suitable – and for whom?

Fillers are suitable for those who want subtle but noticeable improvements to the volume, shape or structure of the face – without resorting to surgery. Whether you want to prevent signs of ageing, restore lost volume or enhance features such as lips or cheekbones, fillers are a versatile and customizable solution.

The treatment is suitable for both younger people who want to work on symmetry and shape – and older people who want to restore youthful elasticity and contour to the face. Many of our clients also experience increased self-confidence when they feel more harmonious with their appearance.

At MyClinic, we always make sure that each treatment is tailored to your specific needs. With our expertise, understanding of anatomy and sense of aesthetics, we create natural results where your unique beauty is in focus.

What is the difference between wrinkle treatment and fillers?

Wrinkle treatment and fillers are two different types of aesthetic injection treatments, but they work in different ways and are used for different purposes.

Wrinkle treatments (muscle relaxants) aim to temporarily relax specific facial muscles that cause expression lines, such as the frown line or crow’s feet around the eyes. The result is smoother skin and a more relaxed expression. The treatment is ideal for preventing and softening dynamic wrinkles caused by facial movements.

Fillers, on the other hand, are used to restore or add volume, define facial contours and smooth static lines – that is, lines that are visible even at rest. They contain hyaluronic acid, a moisture-binding substance that also helps improve skin quality over time.

Both methods can be combined for a complete and harmonious result, and our certified therapists will help you choose the right treatment based on your needs.

Can I do wrinkle treatment on the same day as fillers?

Yes, it is perfectly possible to combine wrinkle treatment and fillers in the same visit. At MyClinic, we always ensure that combination treatments are carried out safely and effectively.

Our licensed therapists are certified by the Aesthetic Injection Council (Estetiska Injektionsrådet), which means that we work according to the highest safety and quality standards in aesthetic treatments. You can feel completely confident that the treatment is individually adapted, well planned and executed.

We see the totality of your aesthetic, therefore a combined treatment can often give a more balanced and harmonious result. Don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss how we can best plan your treatment based on your wishes and needs.

Questions and Answers about Fillers in Stockholm

How do I book a consultation for fillers?

You can book a free video consultation by clicking here. It is also possible to book an on-site consultation for SEK 300.

If you have not previously attended a consultation for aesthetic injection treatments such as fillers or wrinkle treatments, it is required by law to book one before proceeding. Following the consultation, a mandatory reflection period of at least two days is required before the treatment can take place. For repeat treatments after more than six months, a new consultation is mandatory, but no additional reflection period is needed.

Pretreatment Guidelines for Fillers
  • Avoid blood-thinning medications (e.g., ibuprofen, aspirin) for at least one week prior to treatment.
  • Do not take any Anti-inflammatory medications that may affect blood clotting.
  • Refrain from Omega-3 supplements for two weeks before treatment.
  • Avoid alcohol consumption for at least 24 hours prior to treatment.

These precautions help ensure a safer procedure and optimize your filler treatment results.

Posttreatment Guidelines for Fillers

After your filler treatment, it is important to follow these guidelines to ensure optimal results and minimize side effects:

  • Avoid touching or massaging the treated area for the first 6–12 hours.
  • Refrain from consuming alcohol and taking blood-thinning medications for the first few days.
  • Avoid intense physical exercise for 24–48 hours.
  • Minimize facial expressions and movements during the first 24 hours.
  • Stay away from direct sunlight, saunas, and high heat for the first few days.
  • Apply sunscreen once any initial swelling has subsided.
  • Avoid wearing makeup for the first 12–24 hours.
  • Be attentive to any unusual symptoms and follow your practitioner’s advice.

Please note:
Results are often visible immediately after treatment; however, it typically takes a few days to about a week for swelling and minor side effects to fully resolve. Allow yourself time to see the final, refined results.

Is there any downtime after filler treatment?

Recovery from fillers is typically quick and smooth. Most patients experience minimal downtime, although mild swelling, redness, or tenderness around the injection site is common during the first few days.

To achieve the best possible results from your filler treatment, it is recommended to avoid intense physical activity and direct sun exposure for the first 24–48 hours. Following these simple guidelines helps minimize the risk of unwanted side effects and ensures optimal, long-lasting results.

What Does a Filler Treatment Cost?

The price of a filler treatment varies depending on several factors, most notably the type of treatment, the amount of filler needed, and the desired results. At MyClinic, we always work based on an individual assessment, meaning we never use standard packages, but instead tailor the amount and technique to your unique facial anatomy and aesthetic goals.

A minor treatment may involve 0.5 ml of filler, while more advanced contouring of areas such as the jawline or cheeks often requires between 2 and 5 ml to achieve a harmonious result. The final price is therefore influenced by both the volume and the type of filler used, for example, whether a hyaluronic acid-based filler or a collagen-stimulating filler is selected.

We always recommend starting with a consultation, where we discuss your goals, analyze your individual features, and provide a personalized price estimate. This ensures full clarity and confidence, you will know exactly what to expect in terms of both results and costs before your treatment begins.

Do Fillers hurt?

Discomfort during a filler treatment is usually minimal and varies from person to person. To ensure a comfortable experience, a numbing cream or local anesthetic is applied before the treatment begins.

Our experienced practitioners use modern techniques and advanced equipment to further minimize any discomfort. We tailor each treatment to your needs and make sure you feel safe and well-informed — before, during, and after your filler treatment. You are always welcome to ask questions to ensure you feel fully prepared.

Can Fillers Really Deliver Natural Results?

Achieving a natural result is the most common goal among our patients, and it is entirely possible with the right technique and expertise. At MyClinic, we follow a “less is more” philosophy, where each injection is carefully planned to enhance, not alter, your natural features.

When planning for a natural result, we consider several factors: the amount of filler used, the placement on the face, your age, skin quality, and underlying facial structure. By understanding facial proportions and anatomy, we can restore lost volume or enhance features in a way that feels subtle and harmonious.

The principle of gradual build-up is also important, sometimes a series of smaller treatments over time is recommended to achieve a sustainable and natural-looking result. During the consultation, we assess your facial expressions, skin elasticity, and symmetry to design a realistic and customized treatment plan tailored to you.

What Are the Most Common Side Effects of Fillers?

The most common side effects after a filler treatment include mild swelling, redness, and tenderness at the injection site. These reactions are completely normal and typically subside within a few days.

Your practitioner will monitor your results carefully and provide clear aftercare instructions to help you manage any side effects. Our goal is always to ensure that you feel safe, well-informed, and supported throughout the entire process.

Can I Return to Normal Activities After Fillers?

Yes, you can usually return to your normal activities immediately after a filler treatment. However, it is common to experience mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site. These reactions are typically mild and resolve within a few days.

Your practitioner will provide you with personalized aftercare instructions to help minimize any side effects and optimize the results of your filler treatment.

How Long Does a Filler Treatment Take?

The duration of a filler treatment varies depending on the area being treated, the amount of filler required, and whether it is your first visit or a follow-up appointment.

For simpler treatments, such as lip augmentation, the entire visit, including consultation, any necessary numbing, and the injection itself, typically takes around 30 minutes. The injection process is quick, but we always allocate time to discuss your goals, apply anesthesia if needed, and ensure you feel safe and well-informed.

For more extensive treatments, such as jawline, chin, or cheekbone contouring, the session can take between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on the volume of filler and the complexity of the treatment.

If you wish to treat multiple areas at the same time or plan for a larger volume of filler, it is possible to book an extended appointment through our booking system. This allows for a more detailed and comprehensive treatment.

At MyClinic, we always prioritize precision over speed, our goal is to deliver natural, safe results in a calm and professional environment.

At What Age Is It Appropriate to Start with Fillers?

The minimum age for filler treatments is 18 years.

Some younger individuals seek fillers to correct asymmetries or enhance features such as the lips or chin. Others consider fillers in their 30s and 40s to address early signs of ageing, while older clients often aim to restore volume lost over time. All of these are valid reasons, but the most important factor is that treatment is based on a holistic assessment of your individual needs, not simply your age.

During your consultation, we will discuss your goals, evaluate your skin condition, and determine what is appropriate for you. Our focus is not on changing your appearance, but on enhancing your natural features, always in harmony with your age and personal goals.

Can You Have Fillers While Pregnant or Breastfeeding?

At MyClinic, we do not perform filler treatments on individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding. The reason is that there is currently insufficient research to confirm that aesthetic injections are completely risk-free during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Although fillers are generally considered safe, there is no conclusive scientific evidence on how they might affect the fetus or be transferred through breast milk. We follow the precautionary principle and always prioritize the safety of both you and your baby.

Can Fillers Be Removed?

Yes, fillers can be removed, depending on the type of filler used. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers can be safely and effectively dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. However, filler removal should always be performed by a trained and experienced practitioner to ensure safety and optimal results.

You can read more about filler removal by clicking here.
